Preview of the 2011 Fine Arts & Crafts Festival

After a long, hot summer, the fall has returned—and so have Media’s street festivals. To kick off the season, the Fine Arts & Crafts Festival comes to State Street this Saturday, September 10.

This will be the first year that the event, sponsored by and normally held at the Community Arts Center, will take place in downtown Media. The event will showcase a selection of artists from a range of disciplines and promises to be an exciting day!

The Community Arts Center started sponsoring this event in 2002. The artists who display their works are selected through a jury process. Mediums include pottery, ceramics, oil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed medium, photography and fabrics. This event gives the community a chance to view original works and watch original works be created at the Artist’s Demo Stand.

Bob Deane, accomplished potter and friend to Earth & State’s Drew Arata, will be at the Artist’s Demo Stand on Plum Street at 11AM. Witnessing Deane create his pieces live is not something to be missed.

Mixed media artist Nancy Barch will also be at the event. She will have her art on exhibit at a booth on State Street and will also be doing an Artist’s Demo at 1PM on Plum Street.

Oil painter Matiko Mamaladze (whose piece “Childhood Memories” is shown above) will also be exhibiting on Saturday. The award-winning artist, who teaches oil painting classes at the Community Arts Center and at Darlington Fine Arts Center in Boothwyn, PA, will have her works on display in a booth near The Village Art Shop on State Street.

Among the artists showcasing their original photographs on State Street are Patricia Danzen and Steven Miller. Jewelry maker Janet Kofoed will have her one-of-a-kind pieces on display the Seven Stones Gallery. The Wallingford Potters Guild will be at the event, along with ceramic artists Tracy Kosman and Ken Beidler. Watercolor artist Tariq Rahman will be showcasing original works near Seven Stones Gallery. This is just a taste of the many, many talented artists you’ll find downtown on Saturday.

And, of course, Fig Media will have a table on the corner of State and Plum Streets, where we’ll be handing out free copies of our latest issue—very fittingly, the Art Issue. We’ll be there from 11AM–2PM. Be sure to stop by and grab your copy of Fig Media!

In addition to the arts on display, there will be lots of children’s activities on Plum Street, and local restaurants will also be participating in the event. With so much going on, there is sure to be something for everyone at the 9th annual Community Arts Center’s Fine Arts & Crafts Festival!
