In my humble opinion, these cool winter nights are best paired with a warm beverage, friends, laughter and a lively musical performance. This Saturday night, we can enjoy all three when local favorite Charlie Phillips returns to Seven Stones Cafe to celebrate the release of his third album, What It Is.
Charlie is well known for both his “eclectic style and fresh sound” and his popularity with the local music scene. Charlie’s musical influences have shaped a personal genre that blends rock, soul, folk, reggae and blues into a range of ear-catching melody-driven songs.
In early January, Charlie hosted the release of What It Is at Burlap and Bean to great acclaim. “The songs Phillips and his band played ran the gamut from wild, rock anthems to quieter ballads in almost the same breath,” writes Frank P. Rakaczewski on PAMusicScene.com. “Yet as each song eased its way into the room, the overwhelming sense of kinship extended not only to the audience who cheered him on fervently, but to the players that he shared the stage with.”
If you live locally, you might’ve heard songs from Charlie’s previous albums All Roads Lead to Home and Just Love! on the airwaves via 88.5 WXPN in Philadelphia or 93.7 WSTW in Wilmington, Delaware. If you haven’t yet experienced Charlie’s work, check out these samplings of performances past. Here’s Charlie playing “Trouble”:
And “What’s Left To Believe?”:
Though I have yet to catch one of Charlie’s live performances, his fan following speaks for itself. Charlie’s CD release show at Burlap and Bean was so well attended that the venue was full to capacity—so full, in fact, that some were turned away at the door.
So, word to the wise: come early to secure your seat for this dynamic performance! Join Charlie Phillips at 8PM on Saturday, January 21, at Seven Stones Cafe (22 S. Plum Street at State) for this fun, free, all-ages show.
I’ll see you there!
